Can’t Unlock Watchmac
Published: 2009-03-10
This article helps you solve problems when you cannot seem to unlock Watchmac.
By default Watchmac will requires you to type your Mac OS X login password. Unfortunately, Watchmac cannot determine if you haven’t assigned a login password. So for Watchmac to unlock successfully, you will have to assign a login password in System Preferences > Accounts (temporarily).
Watchmac 1.3 and later allow you to assign a custom password for Watchmac so locking and unlocking works even if you haven’t assigned a login password. Assigning a login password is recommended, however, as it improves security, but you may want to use a different password for Watchmac than to login.
To use a different password for Watchmac than for logging in to Mac OS X do the following:
- Open Watchmac preferences.
- Select the Authentication tab.
- Under Authenticate Using choose Custom password.
- When you want to change your password, click the Change button.
Please note: If you choose to use a custom password but leave the password empty, Watchmac will not ask you to authenticate.
